BlogAFWL 2013: Day Three – Afternoon Shows

August 15, 2013by Olorunsola Saint

day three

AFWL’s last day (Saturday, 3rd August) proved to be the most popular of them all, attracting large crowds of fashionistas, lots of press and the best designers of the event. Africa Fashion Week London had twenty six designers lined up to showcase throughout the day. Yes, twenty six very talented, very versatile and very different collections were presented on the AFWL runway.

We saw feminine, dramatic, ethereal, fierce, fun and colourful pieces from the likes of Zarita Kouture, Kaveke, Didi Creations, Simeogieme, AAMAA A LA MODE, Killian De Burgh, Monis Fashion House and Baah by Jessica Baah to mention but a few.

There were some stand out pieces, there were pieces that had you wanting to own the whole collection and then there were collections that had you fall out of you seat and made you think you’d gone to fashion heaven. Killian de Burgh and BAAH by Jessica Baah were my two “I’m in fashion heaven collections”. Watching their collections on the runway, words like edge, ethereal, vision and sexy came to mind.

Killian de Burgh

Killian de Burgh quit literally killed it!! Whatever ‘it’ is. Her collection was one of the most versatile, futuristic lines to hit the runway at AFWL. Bringing us a hot contemporary, ethereal line with a hint of bondage. A menswear line that proved to be diverse, featuring slim cut suits, beautifully tailored and styled pant and blazer ensembles. Neither too formal nor too casual, Killian de Burgh’s collection exuded vision, beauty and modern (almost otherworldly designs). To add to the mix some of the models wore bondage like headpieces making the collection even more unique and exciting. Visit our gallery to see her full collection.

BAAH by Jessica Baah

BAAH by Jessica Baah was everything I expected it to be and more!! From the dramatic opening piece to the uber sexy evening gowns Jessica Baah brought it! She brought cut outs, huge dramatic shoulders, cheeky mesh, risqué high thigh splits and golds!! BAAH’s pieces were exciting, had edge and were most definitely what I would call fashionably ‘unconventional’ in all the right ways. From the word go her collection had your attention til the end and I for one know that I was in fashion heaven watching her collection, because every single piece was a visual feast.
